Hostage to Childhood-II

As written in “Hostage to childhood” from my other email addy, mhh_jr@msn.com, I gave the historical basis through my developmental experiences for this conclusion:
“From that point to this date my persona has existed on the spectrum scale of esoteric estrangement and irrelevance to standard conventions to marginal interactions with the contemporaneous conventions. I have had to learn through experience how to efficiently utilize my time as the esoteric ingénue without involving myself in distractive and diverting over- indulgences, while no longer submitting myself to the organics of a social system that extortingly commoditizes the worth and value of individuals to a denigrating level of self-esteem and public prostitution.

People exist in a similar personal workspace in which their real persona must navigate between the excesses of its desires and the annihilation of its integrity. From the efforts in that space, the drama and understanding of their lives are played out. To know that the motivations of one's behavior and choices are influenced by where you exist and have found equilibrium on that range of persona give insightful depth to knowing the why of who you are.

For those who see their individual integrity as primary, the excesses of over- indulgence for the sake of being true to one’s self is the ditch of ignominy you can find yourself. At the same token, those who'd accept annihilation of self-integrity to conform or please to the social or cultural extortions of others face the same ditch of ignominy for those excesses. The "point of moderation", where one is at home in the intangible ideals of self-integrity, but able to interface with a commoditizing external world is that point of intangible contentment that will produce the fulfilled life.”

I continue with the dynamics of that personal space. As one exists going forth in the encounters of the day and life, the external influences are less important than the conservation and preservation of whatever form of persona has become one’s identity. That space of pristine, even if flawed, identity is the motivator and director of future intentions. For those not trapped in some socio-pathic, emotional prison, this identity is the “operative” that gets the person through the day-intact. If the person has an operative in which there is a high intimate investment in its value and worth to that consciousness, regardless of its status with others, there will be a set reaction of one direction. As there would be an opposite direction for the person who sees the value and worth of the operative of its identity as being a commodity of value to others. Both have their genesis in the developmental years. Adolescence may be an accentuator of those traits, because of the delayed necessity of acute consequences for the elective choices seen as aesthetic options, rather than the economic and socio-political consequences.

The persona in these pre-economic and pre-socio-political years of juvenile accountability has become less the focus of what others’ influence was upon it, as it is what it sees as its own coping tactics in the short and/or long run. Whether a person has an affirmative regard for its persona and the persona of others, or if the person has a nihilist regard for its and others’ personas will be determined in this period, primarily. Also the degrees of narcissism to annihilation that are held will determine the intensity of the personality.
These qualities can develop independent, though in conjunction, with the social and cultural milieu of the person. A bad child of technically good parents or a good child of technically horrendous parents being the anomalies, prove the point of my assertion. It is in this period of self-awareness, 2-years to 22-years, that the person becomes the hostage of its own childhood. In this dynamic of operative emotions the person is more the involuntary, determinative function than they would be the Calvinistic, absolute of self-accountability that is expected of them. Then we are left with psyches derived from a crystalized adolescent experience projecting themselves in the bodies and authority of adults.

These adults live in vague awareness of these dynamics, if at all. The daily travails immerse their consciousness to no more than the precipitated tactics of this consequence. There are "children" running around in need of a "parenting" from sources that are few and generally unavailable. Compound this with the reality of narcissistic and nihilist personalities in an abundance more than those that make the headlines mocking or condemning those that achieved that public notoriety.
The social system is an alien organism that provides a narrow band of symbioitic syntheses with the spectrum of personas that have intercourse over time with this system. The individual persona becomes socialized under conditions that can be adverse to the individual integrity. The adverse conditions set up a scenario of defensive coping tactics to accomodate with these conditions. These defensive tactics precipitate conditions that furthre alienate the child of the adult body.

What measures could the individual and the communities do to enhance a socially positive outcome? The community must be a sanctuary for individual value and self-esteem. The individual must develop and be provided the tools in which it does not have to degrade or pervert its own sense of worth and integrity to find its congruence in the larger picture of society. Judging by the diversity and digressions of ethos in existence, there will be “losses”.

Yet, those losses can be minimalized by having supportive informal social structures that protect the integrity of the individual from alienation or degradation of the commoditization and prostituting of the inividual to the social environment.










It wil take the sacrificing brave few to lead the reversal of that done by the boldly cynical
